Susan has enjoyed sewing since she was very young girl. She has two early memories that inspired her interest in sewing and fabrics. First was leaning on the dining room table where her mom was seated in front of a sewing machine working on curtains for their house or hand-made Halloween costumes for her and her siblings. The other was going to visit her Godmother at her office, an international interior design company’s showroom in the heart of the New York City garment district. Susan’s initial design and fabric-based sewing projects included wool felt puppets, dolls, and other stuffed toys.
Very quickly, Susan’s preferred art form shifted to quilting. She loved the quest for seeking out original combinations of prints, textures, and colors. Her quilts ranged from intricate hand-sewn Cathedral window quilts to rustic blue-jean quilts. An eight-year quilting project she called her “labor of love” was selected for the 2007 Sisters Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon.
Believing hand-made presents are second to none, she always has given gifts of bed quilts, quilted Christmas stockings, and baby blankets. Many friends are the lucky recipients of one of her Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass window wall hanging quilts.
Susan’s creative side has always included a practical overtone. From curtains to car seat covers, tablecloths to neckties, Susan is always up for a sewing project to address a specific need of family and friends.
Rain Baby Gear apparel and accessories are a continuation of her commitment to creating functional items with a lot of flair.
Today, Susan is grateful for the many friends and family who encouraged her to follow her passion and launch Rain Baby Gear Design.
