Rain Baby Gear uses laminated cotton because it is PVC-free, BPA-free, lead-free soft, scrunchable and CPSIA-compliant.
It is safe for children under 12. It is not the same as oil cloth, PUL and PVC.
Read the full fabric tutorial for details on the other types of fabrics that are related to the plastics family.
Laminated cotton is a 100% cotton fabric that has a thin layer of polyurethane or polyethylene film attached to the patterned (called the right side) of the fabric which allows water to bead quickly and roll right off.
The plasticized surface makes it easy to clean with a damp cloth or baby wipe for extra sanitizing. It is soft to the touch and scrunches between your fingers. It is not stiff like oil cloth.
